Where your data is stored
Your goals, journal and account live in one Lifetick database that the website and the iPhone app share. Here's how it's kept and who can reach it.
Lifetick keeps your account in one place. The website and the iPhone app both read and write the same data, which is why a goal you add on one shows on the other.
Where it lives
Your account, goals, tasks, dreams, journal, trackers, check-in answers and messages are stored in Lifetick's database, on a server we run with Linode (part of Akamai) in the USA.
The database is backed up every 24 hours. Backups are kept in the USA for 7 days, then deleted.
On your iPhone
The app loads your data from Lifetick and doesn't keep its own copy of your goals or journal. It keeps a small cache of recent data on the phone, which is cleared when you sign out. Your sign-in is kept in the iPhone's Keychain.
How it's kept safe
- Every connection is encrypted. The website, the web app and the iPhone app all talk to Lifetick over HTTPS.
- Passwords are hashed. We store a scrambled form of your password, never the password itself.
- Card details don't reach us. When you pay by card on the web, the card number goes straight to our payment provider, which gives us a token in its place. App Store payments are handled by Apple.
- No advertising tracking. The iPhone app doesn't track you for advertising.
- Limited access. Our privacy policy says only authorised employees, agents and contractors who have agreed to keep it confidential can access personal information.
Services that handle some of it
Some parts of Lifetick use other companies to do their job:
- Hosting: Linode (Akamai), in the USA.
- Email: Google, which sends Lifetick's emails.
- Error reports: Sentry, which tells us when something breaks.
- Signing in: Google, Microsoft and Apple, when you choose to sign in with them, and WorkOS for organisation single sign on.
- Payments: Pin Payments and PayPal on the web, and Apple for App Store subscriptions.
- Chat: HubSpot, when you open the chat on our website.
Our privacy policy says we may share information with government agencies, or companies helping prevent fraud, when the law allows or requires it, or to prevent or investigate fraud. It isn't given to them for marketing.
Getting it out, or deleting it
You can download your data as CSV files from Reports. See Export your data. You can delete your account from the iPhone app. See Delete your account and data.
When you delete your account, your goals, tasks, journal, trackers and values are deleted straight away. Copies stay in backups for up to 7 days. Your email address stays on the closed account record. If you belonged to a team, your check-in answers, messages and one-on-one notes stay with that team.
